MRR of NY is located in the Catskill Mountains. We are dedicated to re-homing homeless Rottweilers.
Some of our dogs are owner surrenders , but Most of our dogs come from kill shelters in The New York State area. We also pull dogs from out of State Shelters, such as Virginia , Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia -Where the Gas Box is still used to euthanize dogs .
Some of our dogs are cruelty cases & come from abusive pasts - we offer rehabilitation & training to these dogs and have successfully placed most of our cruelty cases into new loving homes.
All our our dogs are temperament tested before acceptance into our program. Our members consist of Certified Dog Trainers, experienced animal handlers & experienced Rottweiler owners. Any dog adopted from Mountain Rottie Rescue of New York has been fostered in a home prior to adoption. All of our Dogs are up to date on vaccines, Heart-worm tested, on prevention, spayed /neutered, micro-chipped & activated .

"Say NO to puppymills and YES to rescue." When you rescue a dog , you are saving a life and giving a very deserving Dog a much needed second chance!!
Sadly MANY dogs are taken to shelters between the age of 5 months to 1 year.
People think they are 'adorable' when they are a small puppy. Then when the dog is
No longer small and cute and the big puppy is going through the natural chewing stage,
they 'get rid of them', like the dog was a 'disposable object' which had no feelings!
Animals do have feelings and are more loyal than most people!
"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person."
-Andy Rooney
"Shelter Rotts"
This short film by Sheila E. was created to give an insight to the plight of the rescue dogs, many of whom come from high kill shelters. This film depicts the happy and sometimes sad endings of shelter Rotts and the most common reasons why these dogs end up in shelters.
(Many Thanks to Sheila E for her creation of this film, Permission has been granted for educational use). Please press play to watch " Shelter Rotts"
*There is an Ancient Legend of the Cherokee Nation:*
Early in creation,
man and animals lived side by side.
But one day the Great Spirit
decided to separate man from the animals by giving man an eternal
soul.
The Great Spirit caused a huge chasm to open in the earth with
man on one side and the animals on the other side.
The chasm grew
wider and wider until, at the very last moment, the dog jumped across
the chasm to stand by man.
"If you talk with the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys."~Chief Dan George
"The True Character of the Rottweiler " The Rottweiler which is a misunderstood breed , is one of the most loyal & loving campanions , they make excellent family pets with proper training and socialization. They are also one of best wroking breeds, exceeding in all they do.!!
The Rottweiler , along with many other breeds has sadly fallen on troubled times due to irresposible ownership . There are those who want to BAN our breed , if this happens , this noble, couragous and loving breed will one day cease to exist. Please be a resposible owner and say "NO to BSL" . This short film depicts the true nature of our breed !! Please press play to watch this film.

Rescued Dog
by Arlene Pace
Once I was a lonely dog, just looking for a home.
I had no place to go, no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets, in rain, in heat and snow.
I ate whatever I could find, I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore, my body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run,
for people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice so gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me and took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own where you will know no fear"
"You will be dry, you will be warm, you'll have enough to eat."
"And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit, I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let a human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds and bathed and brushed my fur,
she told me about the rescue group and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle, a line that never ends".
"And in the center there is you protected by new friends".
"And all around you are the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home after you've been found"
"And all the other folk are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you, where you can be a star".
She said, "There is a family, that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them, just you wait and see".
"And then they'll join our circle they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be more room for more like you who have no place to go".
I waited very patiently, the day they came and went,
today's the day I thought, my Family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think it wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heartbeat, I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting for a special Dog like you.
Now every night I say a prayer to all the Gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me,
but most of all protect the Dogs in the pound and on the street,
and send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet".
